 Barbara Leger Ocean Wisperer

Nouveau Maritime Oil Painter

Sustained Heel 18x36 oil on boardas seen in Cape Cod Life Magazine Arts Edition 2007"I love the feel in your painting "Sustained heel".   The closeness to the boom end, one can almost smell and hear the fizzing wake.  I live on the bank of theTamar River which is a naval port on the sea.    I have frequently sailed my boat through the wash of the large paddle steamers, which really mashes the water up, putting a lot of air into the water.   Like Alka Seltzer it would fizz for several minutes after they had passed.   I get that feeling from your "Sustained heel".~Tim Thompson/Master Artist UK

“Barbara has a way of capturing the ocean spray, brine and action like no other. The fluidity of the water is hypnotic.” ~Kate/De Bruyne Fine Art

"The painting "Mariquita Sustained Heel" clearly shows her deep understanding of the power of the ocean and evokes a strong emotional response. All of the paintings show her ability to capture maritime scenes from different perspectives."~Lauren/ Coleman Fine Art

Barbara is a listed Artist, recently enrolled as a member of the Oil Painters of America.

Recently promoted in the Cape Cod Life Magazine Arts Edition, she is classified as a fine maritime artist in the American tradition.

Barbara is exalted for her absolute understanding of the expansion, depth, roll and brine of the ocean.

Barbara has made the study of the ocean her life's work and the challenge to capture the force of wind and sail continues to captivate her. She has made her home on the waterfront and is surrounded by all the elements of the sea. As an illuminist, she commands the oil, just as the wind commands the waves. With thin veils of color she brings forth photo realism in its truest form allowing light to glow from within the color. The end result is perfection; visibly evident of her 20 years experience with oil. Private education in Fine Arts under the direction of two Master Maritime Artists (Yale and Harvard) followed by a lengthy apprenticeship.

Barbara follows many of the J Class and America’s Cup yachts as seen in www.jclassyachts.com.

Her favorite yacht is the Mariquita, a vintage J Class, from Fairlie Landing Boatyard in England. Sustained Heel is a depiction of the Mariquita. Barbara accepts commissions on a regular basis. To appoint a commission click here
